Using SSL on Your Entire Site

    ——-
The time has come to seriously consider running your entire site via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL / https).

Most websites do not use SSL (the secure padlock in a browser) on every page of their site, but rather only utilize ‘https’ on pages where sensitive information is gathered. However, there are now compelling reasons to use SSL on your entire website:

Last year, we converted our own lexiconn.com site to run entirely via SSL. We also recently made it fully responsive, which is highly recommended by Google. Feel free to browse our site and you’ll notice the secure padlock on all pages.

Aside from the slight SEO boost, a more compelling reason to switch to all SSL with respect to Google is an upcoming change to the Chrome browser. In the near future, Chrome will flag unencrypted websites as insecure, displaying a red ‘X’ over a padlock in the URL bar. Reference these articles for more complete details on this major change:

    https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/xygdxq/google-will-soon-shame-all-websites-that-are-unencrypted-chrome-https

In fact, Google has started posting recommendations in Google Search Console, as well as emailing webmasters. You may have received a recent email from them with a subject of “Chrome will show security warnings…”. If you read the letter, it will point to specific areas on your site that will be flagged in an upcoming update to their browser. Their recommended solution is to migrate your entire site to SSL.

To go “All SSL”, your site needs its own SSL certificate. If you do not already have one for your website, we offer a variety of SSL certificate options starting at $149.00 per year. Please reference:

Once we put your SSL certificate in place, we can assist with switching over your entire site to run securely. Recent versions of ShopSite support this feature natively, and we can help turn it on for you and make sure everything is configured properly. Magento and WordPress also make it easy to make your entire site secure, and we can assist with these platforms as well.
